A New City

I have arrived in a new city, one which is to be my home for the next two years. Vancouver is ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world, home to the 2010 Winter Olympics and just down the road from a town where bars are filled with more drunk Australians than a West London Walkabout on Anzac Day. First impressions reveal a friendly, liberal city sitting beside a picturesque harbour set against a back drop of the beautiful Rocky mountains. The type of city where everyone says 'please' and 'thank you' and 'have a nice day'. A place where the streets are clean and the air is fresh and where everyone seems to have a slightly bronzed, athletic look that makes you think they may have just returned from a hiking adventure. But what is Vancouver really like, what makes people here tick? At the heart of every city is its people and the best place to find out about the people and their stories is by getting drunk with them at their favourite bars and sharing food with them at cafes, restaurants and roadside stalls at 3am in the morning. People are what they eat in more ways than one so stick with me as I say Eat Me Vancouver!
